On public buying windows

Why the best deals often sit in plain sight, unread.

Very few things in business can change a company's year in a single week.

Fewer still can be used by one person with a laptop, an email address, and the patience to read what other people skip.

Public buying windows are one of them.

Right now, a school is asking for better wifi. Under the federal E-Rate program, it must post that request and wait at least 28 days before it picks a provider. A library wants new cabling. A company just lost a public bid by a few percent, and its crew and paperwork are still ready. Nursing homes are paying agencies for nurses, and those payroll records go to Medicare. Roofers are bringing in seasonal crews through the H-2B visa, filed with the Department of Labor. Cities in Illinois are launching their own traffic light and sign projects.

None of these buyers are careless. None of these companies are lazy. The buyers posted their needs in plain sight. The companies that could help are busy doing the work, and they do not read requests posted two counties away. Many school contracts get a single bid, or none.

One short email can change that. It can put a buyer with a real need in front of a company that can meet it, while the window is still open. A reply can come within days. A quote can follow. A contract can begin.

It sounds too simple, but a lot of good work starts with someone noticing.

You have heard the pitch before. Lead lists. Cold outreach. Funnels, scripts, and loud promises about speed.

So here is the plain truth.

There is no silver bullet here.

It is hard to read these records well. It is hard to tell a real need from an old posting. It is hard to know which company fits which job. It is hard to write to a stranger and earn a reply.

It can be done, though. And done with care, it is a quiet advantage that few people use.

I learned this by reading these public registers myself, one record after another. The information is public. The attention is not. The right companies are busy working, and nobody has time to scan every posting in every county.

That changed how I think about growth.

Most people think a company grows by pushing harder. Often it grows when the right company sees the right request at the right time.

ConnectPros exists for these windows. I read the registers, find buyers with a posted need, and introduce them to companies that can do the work. The buyer never pays. The supplier pays a flat rate, written down in advance, with no commission. Everything happens by email.

In some markets, a posted request waits unread for weeks.

With the right introduction, it becomes a contract.
